First female police officer and Sergeant for the McAllen Police Department
Responsible for the prevention of crime and the apprehension of criminals in accordance with the local, state and federal laws.
Supervision of other sworn officers in the enforcement of laws and related work
Administered police department policy, procedures, rules and regulations in planning, coordinating and supervising the conduct and performances of personnel assigned.
Professional responsibilities included servicing as liaison between the police department and the McAllen Independent School District, media and civic organizations.
Developed and implemented and launched the city’s first youth diversionary program - Teen Court, approved by the Hidalgo County Board of Judges.
Accountable for the development and implementation of the department’s Community Policing Program, supervising a staff of 21, coordinating the construction and architectural design of the police centers and development of operating procedures.
Implemented the first DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) Program 1988 in McAllen, Texas, starting with six schools in 1988 and expanding the program to 26 schools within two years.
Successfully launched the City’s first Officer Friendly program targeting youth in the elementary schools.
